MOTOTRBO System Planner Overview

RadioPro is a licensed managed communication product for remote access to RF two-way radios over IP networks. It supports Dispatch over IP (DoIP) with voice, GPS, and text messaging capabilities. The system is built using a modular architecture of:

  • RadioPro IP Gateways
  • Dispatch, Solo, or Talk Clients (PC or Mobile)
  • Motorola MOTOTRBO or Kenwood NEXEDGE Radios

Capacity Plus and Linked Capacity Plus System Planning

This planner includes diagrams and configuration steps for:

  • IP addressing and subnet design
  • GPS and ARS signaling setup
  • Control station radio configuration
  • Gateway-to-radio interface options

Learn how to scale your system with Data Revert support and radio ID management to meet larger deployment needs.

Capacity Max System Planning with RadioPro

While RadioPro primarily supports MOTOTRBO IP Site Connect, Conventional, and Capacity Plus systems, the planner also touches on considerations when integrating with Capacity Max systems and what configuration limitations may exist.

Motorola Control Station & IP Gateway Setup

Each control station radio connects to a RadioPro IP Gateway, which serves as a network interface and server for client applications. Supported models include:

  • XPR 5550 / 5550e
  • XPR 2500
  • Kenwood NX-700/800/5700/5800 series

Setup includes assigning static IPs, programming via Motorola CPS, and configuring GPS and ARS signaling.

Capacity Plus and Linked Capacity Plus System Configuration

Plan and configure MOTOTRBO Capacity Plus and Linked Capacity Plus systems with or without Data Revert. The RadioPro System Planner includes detailed diagrams and addressing rules to support:

  • Voice and Data slot separation
  • Radio ID and subnet design rules
  • Scalability with up to 3 Data Revert radios per IP Gateway

RadioPro Gateways require version 5.1.5 or later to support these advanced configurations.

IP Site Connect System Planning

Use RadioPro to support IP Site Connect (IPSC) systems with and without Data Revert. When planning for IPSC:

  • Each wide-area talk path requires its own Control Station and IP Gateway
  • GPS and ARS messages follow specific voice/data slot paths depending on setup
  • Separate subnet assignment for each device is critical

Enhanced GPS for MOTOTRBO Repeaters

The Motorola Enhanced GPS Repeater Option allows for high-efficiency GPS updates with far fewer repeaters. For example, 100% reliable updates for 225 radios per minute requires:

OptionRepeaters Needed
Without Enhanced GPS6
With Enhanced GPS1

This option dramatically increases network efficiency by assigning unique "time slices" to each subscriber radio, reducing collisions.

Understanding ARS and GPS Signaling

Automatic Registration Service (ARS) and GPS location updates are central to RadioPro's capabilities. Configuration includes:

  • Assigning ARS Acknowledgement refresh rates via ICU.exe
  • Choosing between Immediate or Triggered GPS Requests
  • Slot assignments for each type of data message depending on system type

IP Address Planning and Port Forwarding

Proper subnetting and port forwarding is required to allow external clients to reach IP Gateways:

  • Gateways and radios must be on separate subnets
  • Default TCP port is 48222, configurable per gateway
  • Multiple gateways behind a firewall require unique port forwarding rules

Control Station and IP Gateway Rack Mounting

Install your XPR5550 and IP Gateway hardware securely with CTI-recommended rack mount kits and cable organizers. The System Planner includes:

  • Dimensions and mounting hardware part numbers
  • Cable routing considerations
  • Examples for 19" rack shelf configurations

Download the System Planner Template

Record and organize your system configuration with the included planning worksheets. The template includes fields for:

  • IP addresses, subnet masks, gateways
  • RadioPro Dispatch license serial numbers
  • GPS and ARS radio IDs
